Active Relaxation is my new phrase, one that needs to come with an initial explanation…as, from experience I get a weird look when this pops out of my mouth!
In today’s world we have declared relaxation as the moment, usually at the end of the day, when you can sit down in front of the tv and veg out, am I right? Well I have become a firm believer that this should not be the case, in fact I have personally tested my theory that if you completely stop, slow down and “veg” you’ll begin to feel the effects of the day in a powerful way, from lower energy through to lack of desire to do just about anything. When we go completely to zero our subconscious kicks in and convinces us to just “give up” on the day and “give in”. I’ve noticed that I won’t clean up after dinner, my quality of conversation lacks and my brain starts to melt. The less you do, the less you want to do.
Over the last few weeks I’ve implemented |Active Relaxation| and I have found that not only do I thank my self in the morning, but I complete my daily tasks, I have a better memory and even better relationships. I read something on the Clean Mama blog that applied to cleaning up after yourself, but it could really apply to many things. She said, if you clean up before you go to bed, your tomorrow-self will thank you. I literally recite this phrase in my head when I’m feeling a little lazy and contemplate leaving it until the morning. And let me tell you, it has worked wonders, and my tomorrow-self does indeed give me a high 5 the next day!
If you still don’t believe me try it out. Active Relaxation can include, stretching, basic yoga flows, journaling, meditation, playing with your kids, learning something new, baking, reading, communicating, walking in the garden, playing with your dog…the list is endless. Give it a try, at least your tomorrow-self will be grateful!
